North Charleston man sentenced for 2021 mistaken-identity shooting death

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A judge sentenced a man convicted of shooting a man to death in 2021 in a mistaken-identity incident.

Antonio Bernard Grant, 43, received a 55-year prison sentence after being convicted of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office spokesperson Ashley Kay said.

Testimony at the trial revealed that Grant was involved in a shooting on Parana Street with a victims driing a gold-colored Street Malibu two days before the deadly shooting of 21-year-old Markel Maxwell.

Maxwell drove a similar gold Chevrolet Malibu on Parana Street to meet a friend on May 7 around 8:30 p.m. and within seconds of him turning onto the street, Grant fired 17 rounds into his vehicle…
