Cleveland councilmembers call for review of bail process after fatal RTA Puritas Rapid Station shooting

CLEVELAND — Two members of Cleveland City Council are calling for a closer look at the judicial process that allowed Donnie Allen, the 25-year-old man accused of killing Benjamin McComas of Avon Lake in a shooting at an RTA station, to be out on bail for an unrelated alleged crime just days before McComas’ death.

The shooting happened Dec. 14 at the RTA Red Line Puritas Rapid Station on West 150th Street in Cleveland. RTA police told Cleveland officers that McComas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allen was detained by RTA police at the scene. He was later arrested by the Cleveland Division of Police’s Homicide Unit. In addition, authorities say a firearm was located at the scene…
