GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids Public Schools is sharing a timeline of what repurposing two schools will be like.
In 2023, voters approved a bond to make improvements to facilities. After the approval, the GRPS Board of Education voted to close 10 schools as part of the district’s long-term planning efforts. Stocking Elementary School on 7th Street Northwest and Alexander Elementary School on Alexander Street are the two schools up for repurposing.
GRPS plans to close schools amid low enrollment
The West Grand Neighborhood Organization is proposing to turn Stocking Elementary School and the surrounding area into what’s called the Stocking Neighborhood Hub.
