Optician’s alleged road rage was ‘stupid with a capital S,’ Florida sheriff says

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said an optician’s arrest was “crystal clear” after a photo showed him point a gun at a family during a road rage incident.

A 64-year-old optician, Stephen John Phillips, from Mulberry was arrested Sunday after allegedly pointing a gun at a family — including a 3-year-old child — during a road rage confrontation in southwest Polk County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Phillips, who works at Lakeland Eye Clinic, reportedly engaged in aggressive driving before brandishing a firearm at the victims at a red light. Deputies say the family captured a photo of Phillips holding the gun, which led to his arrest on felony aggravated assault charges…
