US Army Corps of Engineers announces plan to remove Peery’s Mill Dam in Blount County

WALLAND, Tenn. — The United States Army Corps of Engineers has announced plans to remove Peery’s Mill Dam in Blount County, touting concerns about the ecosystem along the Little River and human safety.

USACE will partner with the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to remove the dam.

Although it can be calm on the surface, experts say shallow, low-head dams like the one in Walland along the Little River can be “drowning machines.”…
