Fire reported on Malibu Palms Dr. in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Eight apartments were damaged and 21 people — including nine children — have been displaced as the result of a two-alarm fire on Malibu Palms Drive in Virginia Beach Friday evening, a city fire official said.

No one was injured, and crews rescued multiple pets from several apartments, including four cats and one dog who were all safely reunited with their owners.

The first call was received around 5:03 p.m., and when crews arrived about five minutes later to the apartment building fire in the 3600 block of Malibu Palms Drive, in a neighborhood off of Virginia Beach Boulevard and Rosemont Road, they found heavy black smoke and visible flames coming from the second floor of a two-story apartment complex.

Because of the fire’s volume, a second alarm was requested to get additional resources to fight the fire. Crews had the fire under control by 5:35 p.m. and declared it out at 6:01 p.m…
