Appellate judges have upheld the convictions last year of two men whom a jury found guilty of killing two teenage boys in late 2022 and dumping their bodies in the basement of a vacant house that was set fire about a day later.
The Ohio 6th District Court of Appeals ruled in both appeals that while Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Lori Olender should have allowed as exculpatory evidence a co-defendant’s text message that could be read to mean that the boys actually died at a relative’s house, its exclusion was unlikely to have changed the trial’s outcome.
A panel comprising 6th District judges Charles Sulek, Gene Zmuda, and Thomas Osowik made that ruling in regard to defendant Charles Walker on Tuesday, while Judge Sulek was joined Nov. 5 by judges Christina Mayle and Myron Duhart in denying defendant Brent Kohlhofer’s appeal…
