Ford Recalls Nearly 273,000 Vehicles Over Rollaway Risk

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for close to 273,000 vehicles due to a potential defect in the parking mechanism that could lead to unintended vehicle movement, elevating the risk of a collision. This announcement comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall encompasses specific models and model years, including certain F-150 Lightning BEV pickup trucks (2022-2026), Mustang Mach-E cars (2024-2026), and Maverick pickups (2025-2026).

According to the NHTSA notice, the integrated parking module in these affected vehicles may not properly engage and lock into the park position when the driver shifts into that gear.

Ford intends to notify owners of the recall via mail, with letters expected to be issued on February 2, 2026. The problematic software can be rectified through an “over-the-air” update, performed remotely, or by visiting a dealership. Ford’s internal recall number for this issue is 25C69.

This recall follows a separate incident in June, where Ford recalled over 197,000 Mustang Mach-E vehicles due to a different concern involving the car’s door latches.
