Baton Rouge man sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison for gun conviction

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison after being convicted of illegally possessing a firearm.

U.S. Attorney Kurt L. Wall announced that a federal judge sentenced Alkeyvin Ennis, 33, to 153 months in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. After finishing his prison term, Ennis will have 13 years of supervised release. The firearm in this case had to be forfeited.

Louisiana man accused of playing a cop, striking victim and stealing vehicle

According to a news release, the case stems from a police pursuit in July 2022 involving a stolen vehicle. Authorities said a 2020 Kia Soul was reported stolen on June 24, 2022. About two weeks later, Baton Rouge police spotted the vehicle on Greenwell Springs Road.

The driver sped away, ran a red light, and crashed into a home on North 49th Street, causing major damage. Ennis then ran from the vehicle but was caught by officers in a nearby yard…
