State Building Commission approves $131 million to build new juvenile correctional facility in Fitchburg

MADISON, Wis. — The State Building Commission has approved nearly $131 million in funding to build a new juvenile correctional facility in Fitchburg, which is in the Madison area.

It’s part of a larger plan to move juveniles from the Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake schools, which are both in Irma.

The new facility is expected to house 32 boys and eight girls and consist of two buildings, one main and one adjacent, meant for staff spaces for storage and maintenance work. Construction would begin in Sept. 2026, according to official plans…
