A fleet of intricately carved ice sculptures is coming to the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia).
The annual Institute of Ice exhibit will return on Jan. 8. The exhibit features large-scale ice sculptures, inspired by works from the Mia’s collection, on view outside the museum in Minneapolis’ Whittier neighborhood.
At the heart of this year’s exhibit will be the return of Mia’s Bronze Owl (sometimes referred to as the Pillsbury Owl), a Shang dynasty-era vessel that hasn’t been on view since 2023, when it was damaged after a visitor tripped.
The 12th-13th century vessel will be on view in the upper lobby through Jan. 31, after which the museum will begin preparing to reinstall it in the bronze galleries, opening April 11…
