OKLAHOMA CITY – 2025 marked significant growth in Oklahoma City. From the passage of new initiatives to laying the foundations of the city’s future, each step into the future likely passed through the periphery of the Oklahoma CityCouncil.

With the new year and newer opportunities just around the corner, take a look at what 2025 meant for Oklahoma City and what is on the agenda for 2026.

Announced during Mayor David Holt’s 2025 State of the City address in July, plans for a new arena in downtown Oklahoma City were revealed to the public for the first time, showing off what the future of Thunder basketball would look like.

With a conceptual design revealed by the city and developer MANICA Architecture, the city council approved the construction team for the new arena earlier in March.

Construction is set to begin in 2026, but to make room, Oklahoma City said goodbye to one of its most iconic locations, the Former Myriad Convention Center.

Officially opened in 1972, the Myriad saw five decades of Oklahoma City history, standing tall amid the city’s ups and downs, hosting sports and entertainment events before being converted into a film studio in its final years…
