CSPD: Man arrested connected to Dec. 13 structure fire

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has confirmed that the department has arrested a man in connection with the Dec. 13 structure fire on North Century Street.

CSPD reports that on Thursday, Dec. 18, officers with the Regional Explosives Unit contacted witnesses related to the Dec. 13 fire. According to CSPD, multiple witnesses identified the man from the person of interest media release as 32-year-old Demetri Medina. This was enough to give CSPD probable cause to arrest Medina.

The official report of the arrest says that Medina was found in the 2800 block of North Nevada Avenue and brought into custody around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 18. He is being charged with Fourth Degree Arson, Second Degree Arson, and Harassment.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) originally responded to multiple reports of a structure fire in the 3100 block of North Century Street just before 2:45 p.m. on Dec. 13. According to CSFD, upon arrival at 2:48 p.m., CSFD Engine 6 personnel found a large pile of styrofoam and construction materials burning outside of the business on N Century St.

Firefighters contained the fire to the pile and prevented it from spreading to other buildings closeby. After heavy equipment was brought in to break the pile apart, the fire was down and under control roughly 45 minutes after CSFD arrived…
