OR 58 eastbound is the latest highway to be partially closed Dec. 19 in the aftermath of extreme weather overnight. Record rainfall caused high water and ground movement.
OR 58 was restricted to one lane 16 miles east of McCredie Springs at milepost 61 due to a snow-related crash. The Oregon Department of Transportation said to expect delays of up to 20 minutes, consider using an alternate route if possible and slow down and watch for emergency responders working in the area.
High water, downed trees, landslides and flooding have creating road hazards on several Oregon highways. In addition to OR 58, Lane County drivers should be aware:
- High water was present on OR-36 1 mile west of Cheshire. The highway was still open but travelers should drive slowly and plan for a 20-minute delay.
- OR-501 at the Lane/Benton county line was closed because of a landslide 8 miles south of Alsea.
- Drivers crossing the Cascades, either through OR-58 or OR-126, should carry chains or traction tires for snow in the mountains.
- Drivers leaving Lane County to the south should carry chains or traction tires for high water on I-5 around the Lane/Douglas county line.
