Man accused of killing girlfriend in Phoenix, fleeing to southern Arizona

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man is accused of murdering his girlfriend outside of a Phoenix home and then fleeing to the southern part of the state this week.

Police say Victor Giron, 21, was arrested in connection with the death of Katherine Cervantez, 39.

Around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Phoenix police were called to investigate a shooting near 12th Street and Mountain View Road, east of Cave Creek Road. Court documents state Cervantez was shot at least once and found inside a Nissan Altima. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Officers spoke with a friend of Cervantez’s, who said Cervantez and Giron had only been dating for two weeks. The day before the murder, the couple met up with Cervantez’s friend, who noticed that Giron was carrying a gun…
