Remembering Admiral James H. Flatley III for his lifetime of service

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A legacy of courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to service. Rear Admiral James H. Flatley III, USN (Ret.), has died at age 91.

A decorated naval aviator, Flatley made history in 1963 when he landed a C-130 Hercules on an aircraft carrier. It was the largest aircraft to ever land on a carrier.

With a highly decorated career in 31 years of active military service, Flatley came to Charleston in 1994 and was the CEO of Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum for seven years. Earlier this year, he was honored with the Order of the Palmetto for his lifelong contributions to the community…
