Tennessee lawmaker proposes return of Presidential Fitness Test to schools statewide

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Tennessee lawmaker has filed legislation that would require public schools to administer the Presidential Fitness Test as a way to assess student health and physical fitness.

State Rep. Scott Cepicky, R-Culleoka, introduced House Bill 1466 this week. The proposal would require schools across the state to conduct the fitness test, which measures strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Under the bill, the Tennessee Department of Education would provide guidance to local school districts and public charter schools on implementing the test. Students who meet standards set by the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition could receive a Presidential Fitness Award…
