CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Be ready to bundle up on Friday morning, but fewer layers will be needed for many of the next several days.
Wind gusts have been strong throughout the afternoon and evening, and we’re still expecting some about 40 mph through at least 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. Closer to daybreak, those gusts will diminish further.
Some lingering flurries or light snow showers could be in parts of the area until about midnight, but then clearer skies will take hold.
If you find yourself within one of those snow showers, slow down. Give yourself extra time to react if you need to brake. If you feel unsafe, pull off to a safe place until the snow shower passes.
Clear skies and northwesterly winds will facilitate lows in the single digits above zero. Despite some weakening of the winds by daybreak, wind chills by then should be in the -5 to -15 range, making for a bitterly cold start to your Friday.
The good news is that winds will stay generally lighter on Friday, but not nonexistent. They’ll swing around to a more southerly direction by the afternoon, and a partly cloudy sky results in highs that get back into the 20s. Wind chills stick around the 10s at their warmest during the day…
