City of Clay Reconnected: Old Springville Road Reopens After 7 Month-Long Closure

After nearly seven months of closures that split the City of Clay in half, Old Springville Road in Jefferson County was set to reopen to traffic Saturday evening under temporary traffic control, restoring a critical connection for residents and businesses impacted by the long-delayed project.

The roadway was scheduled to reopen around 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, as part of a $5 million construction project to raise the bridge, reduce flooding, and add pedestrian improvements. Weather and utility delays pushed the reopening well past its original timeline, frustrating commuters and local leaders.
