Tree planting supports healthy parks in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Building on two years of collaboration through the Rivanna Forest Restoration Project, the Rivanna Conservation Alliance hosted a workday on Saturday, December 20, to plant trees in Charlottesville and Albemarle parks.

“It’s really important for people to know about these issues because this is happening in everybody’s yard right now,” said Lisa Wittenborn, executive director of the Rivanna Conservation Alliance. “It’s not just along the river. We’ve got invasive plants spreading all throughout the community.”

Wittenborn said invasive plants and vines in parks kill native trees and harm the habitats wildlife needs to survive…
