Powers announces opening of higher education institution in Union County

The first day of classes is Jan. 5.

MAYNARDVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)– State Representative Dennis Powers, R-Jacksboro, announced the opening of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville and Walters State Community College’s Union County campus.

Located next to Union County High School, the 14,790-square-foot campus houses a welding technology program, multi-use lab space, and several classrooms for both TCAT Knoxville and WSCC classes.

“The Union County campus of TCAT Knoxville and Walters State Community College creates new opportunities for high school students and adults seeking to further their education, ” Powers said. “By removing transportation barriers, students can now pursue dual enrollment and certifications close to home. I’m grateful to our local and state partners for making this possible and look forward to seeing students build their careers here in the coming years.”

Programs and courses offered at the school include adult education, general education, allied health courses such as CPR and nursing, as well as manufacturing, nuclear and construction courses…
