One dead after police chase ends in fiery wreck in Midtown Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened on South Fulton Street after officers tried to initiate a traffic stop in Midtown just before 8 p.m.

According to Chief William Jackson, officers tried to stop the car on Government Street. A brief pursuit ended on South Fulton Street when the vehicle struck a tree. Neighbors tell News 5 that the car caught on fire after the crash.

A female passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the MPD.

This is the second time this month a police chase ended in a wreck in a Midtown neighborhood…
