Jamaican man previously deported twice gets 24 years for drug, gun crimes in East Tennessee: DOJ

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The United States Department of Justice said a Jamaican man who has been deported from the United States twice was sentenced to decades behind bars for drug and gun crimes in East Tennessee.

According to the DOJ, filed court documents said the Johnson City Police Department was notified in November 2022 about a shipment of marijuana that was scheduled to be delivered at a Johnson City home. This led to a search warrant and investigation at 45-year-old Courtney Sterling’s home, during which 11 pounds of methamphetamine, two and a half pounds of cocaine and firearms were found, leading to Sterling’s arrest. Officers later found more guns, cocaine and a large amount of money, the DOJ said.

In October 2024, the DOJ said authorities intercepted a shipment of 20 pounds of methamphetamine and 2.6 pounds of cocaine to another Johnson City home. Sterling had coordinated this with 37-year-old Heather Ward and 41-year-old MJ Adams, both of Johnson City, for the drugs to be distributed in East Tennessee.
