A Clermont man was arrested for DUI when his unsafe driving and slurred speech tipped off a deputy to his impairment.
A deputy stopped 30-year-old Matthew John Luken in a white Ford F150 near Wilson Lake Parkway and U.S. Hwy. 27 in Clermont at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He had seen the vehicle change lanes without signaling, improperly start from a signal and drive in an unsafe manner.
When speaking with Luken, he had slurred speech, glossy eyes and the smell of alcohol on his person, the report said. He denied drinking despite these signs of impairment, saying, “I ain’t drink.”
He went on to explain that he was driving his father’s truck because his own vehicle had broken down that day. His car had electrical issues, including the windows not working and the vehicle only getting up to five miles per hour. He had also called his mother to pick him up and took his father’s truck to get from Leesburg, where his parents lived, to Clermont.
