The chance for an accumulating snowfall on Tuesday is increasing for much of Southern New England away from the south coast.
A weak weather disturbance will push across New England during the day on Tuesday, bringing a period of light snow to the region. Expect snow to begin on Tuesday morning and last much of the daylight hours.
Temperatures will be near freezing for much of the storm and could rise above freezing by late Tuesday, changing snow over to rain for a brief time before precipitation ends Tuesday night. Those temperatures near freezing will limit any road impacts and make it tough for more than an inch or two of snow to accumulate, even across northern Rhode Island.
In places where an inch or two of snow does accumulate, there’s a chance it could stick around until Christmas Day, bringing a white Christmas to parts of the region. The best chance for that will be across far northern Rhode Island towards Worcester County. The definition of a White Christmas is one inch or more of snow on the ground at 7 a.m. Christmas morning. The historical chance for a white Christmas is just 17% in Providence (at T.F. Green where records are held), but closer to 40% across the higher elevations of northern Rhode Island. It will be a close call this year…
