AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Though it may be sunny and 75 outside, it is still winter time, and that means Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport is prepping for winter weather.
Mason Harlow, assistant airport facilities director, said it’s a year-round preparation, and Garnett Schafer, the airport operations manager, said that during the warmer months is when they perform equipment maintenance and operator training, as well as supply procurement.
Schafer said the biggest threat for snow at the airport is typically from November through March, with some outliers, seeing snow as early as September or October and as late as April 30th.
