A night out for Christmas: Experiencing a miracle pop-up in downtown Lafayette

There’s something about over-the-top Christmas decor that makes an outing feel like a movie.

Pamplona Tapas Bar in downtown Lafayette makes the most of that effect each December, with lights, ornaments, Christmas villages, wrapping paper and other notes of holiday cheer decorating every inch of the cozy restaurant.

Driving the point home, beloved holiday movies are an ever-present theme in the decor, with the leg lamp from “A Christmas Story” in one corner, and a projector playing films like “Home Alone” in another section.

Staff close the restaurant for almost a week before Thanksgiving each year to decorate, transforming the building from the haunted-house-meets-fine-dining vibe during their popular Halloween pop-up, into a festive wonderland. Keen-eyed diners will notice quirky vestiges from spooky season, such as a skeleton dressed up like Santa Clause…
