[1] Parents file lawsuit over shooting in Atrisco Heritage High School parking lot – In December 2023, investigators say that then 16-year-olds Adrian Martinez and Elijah Pohl-Morfin were playing with a gun in a car in the parking lot of Atrisco Heritage High School when it accidentally went off, killing Elijah. Now his family is suing Albuquerque Public Schools, Martinez, and Martinez’s family for Elijah’s death.
[2] Study suggests changes to intersection in Rio Rancho – The state released the results of a study aimed at making a Rio Rancho intersection safer after several deadly crashes. Drivers say the stretch of road along 528, near Pasilla and Riverside, has become dangerous. The DOT says with the growing number of cars driving in the area, a new light would need to be placed there in the future. As a temporary solution, the DOT proposed installing delineators and making changes to the lanes. Council members and Mayor Greg Hull raised concerns about the potential for cars making U-turns near a fire station. The DOT mentioned a future study would be conducted to see if the delineators are having an impact.
[3] Widespread record warmth extends into weekend – Friday’s forecast has high level clouds moving throughout the state with record warmth forecasted for numerous cities. Temperatures are expected to climb into the 60s once again in Albuquerque, while locations in southeastern New Mexico will climb into the mid to upper 70s this afternoon.
