Denver weather: Rare ‘Particularly Dangerous Situation’ alert issued Friday for foothills, northern Colorado

Friday’s weather in Denver, around the metro area and in the western foothills is forecast to be very dry, very windy and very warm, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a rare alert.

“We rarely issue these Particularly Dangerous Situation Red Flag Warnings regarding potential for rapid wildfire spread in and immediately adjacent to the Boulder/Jefferson County foothills. Be ready to take swift action,” reads the NWS in Boulder’s social media post on X regarding Friday’s extremely critical fire weather conditions.

“Don’t be surprised if the majority of the day is rather calm away from the foothills. Then stronger winds develop and push eastward through the afternoon and evening into Denver/I-25 Corridor, but fortunately not nearly as strong as foothills/CO-93 wind,” the NWS said.

In Denver, it’ll be partly sunny, with a high near 71. Expect breezy conditions, with a west southwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph…
