Community Coat Drive Warms Local Children

Nearly 200 kids left the Laguna Beach Boys & Girls Club last week with brand new coats given by Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley for the annual ‘New Coats for Kids Drive.’

Now in its 17th year distributing coats to the community, Foley recently expanded it to the Fifth District including the Laguna Beach Boys & Girls Club and the San Juan Capistrano Boys & Girls Club.

“We are super excited about the donations this year. They are even better than in years past,” Foley said at the distribution event on Dec. 11. “More variety of sizes so we can fit every child just by the amazing quality of jackets. Nobody is going to leave here without a jacket and they’re going to be warm and cozy for the holidays.”

At the coat giveaway, Foley asked the Laguna Beach Fire Department Station 1 firefighters to share safety tips for the holidays such as turning off any candles and unplugging your Christmas tree lights overnight. Public officials also provided safety tips when riding a bicycle such as making sure to wear a helmet and proper shoes…
