Lead investigator in Karen Read case suspended by POST Commission

The state’s police oversight board suspended the law enforcement certification of Michael Proctor, the former Massachusetts State Police trooper who investigated Karen Read.

The Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission suspended Proctor’s certification “in the best interest of the health, safety, or welfare of the public” on Dec. 18. This means Proctor will not be allowed to serve in law enforcement in the state.

The decision also means Proctor must surrender any outstanding agency-issued credentials and equipment such as any uniform, badge, firearms, and use-of-force instruments such as tasers…
