SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — The first half of the weekend featured a bit of wind with some cooler temperatures, but the second half features some change for KELOLAND…not to mention the official start of winter at 9:03 am CST/8:03 am MST this morning!
While we do start off with sunnier skies in place, cloud cover increases over the course of the day. Outside of that and a little wind a times, it’s shaping up to be another rather nice day to be out and about.
Though winter does officially start today, it’s not going to look or feel like it in really any capacity through this abridged work and school week and through Christmas Day as well. In fact, by Christmas Eve and Christmas Day we’ll likely be watching the record books as unseasonable warmth takes hold. Even after the holidays, above average temperatures stick around through the last weekend of the year beyond a glancing shot of cooler air next weekend.
All the while, moisture of any variety (Rain, snow, or otherwise) will be tough to come by. We simply don’t have a pattern that supports any significant chance for anything to come our way through at least Christmas Day. Overnight and into Friday, a few outlooks do try to bring some rain and a rain/snow mix into the picture, but there’s a good amount of flip-flopping regarding whether something even materializes or not. All the same, keep an eye out for updates.
Beyond the 7 day forecast, 2025 looks like it’ll come to a warm conclusion…but the script may flip by the start of 2026. We’ll watch this development as well…
