ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — On the longest night of the year, a vigil and protest were held at the state capital to honor those experiencing homelessness this winter and to demand that a state of emergency be called to address the issues as temperatures drop. The event, part of the National Union of the Homeless’ “Winter Offensive”, aimed to challenge charity narratives about poor and homeless individuals.
Bebhinn Francis, co-founder of the Albany chapter of the National Union of the Homeless, emphasized the urgency of addressing homelessness during the harsh winter months.
