Fire sweeps through Essex home

ESSEX, MD—Firefighters from across Baltimore County’s east side converged on a residential neighborhood in Essex on Sunday afternoon to battle a house fire and search for potential occupants.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on December 21, emergency dispatchers sent crews to the unit block of Silver Avenue following reports of a structure fire with people possibly trapped inside. Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes to find a 1-1/2 story single-family home with heavy flames visible from multiple sides of the building.

Crews from Essex Engine 7 and Engine 71 led the initial attack, beginning a rapid fire suppression effort while simultaneously searching the home for victims. They were quickly joined by personnel from Eastview Engine and Truck 15, who assisted with the extinguishment, search and rescue, and ventilation of the structure…
