Hopewell City Public Schools board member dies after decades of service with the school district

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — A Hopewell City Public Schools board member has died, school officials confirmed.

On Sunday, Dec. 21, the school division announced that Linda Hyslop died following decades of service with the school district, including more than a decade as a school board member.

“It is with profound sadness and immeasurable loss that Hopewell City Public Schools announces the sudden passing of board member, Miss Linda Hyslop,” the district wrote in the post. “There are simply no words adequate to describe the gift Miss Hyslop was to the school district and city. She was the school division’s greatest champion for students and staff. Her dedicated service as a lifetime employee and long-standing school board member will be forever acknowledged, honored and remembered.”

“We sadly share this notice with our community. Mrs. Hyslop has represented Hopewell Schools to Maggie Walker for many years on the Regional School Board,” wrote Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies in a social post. “We could always depend on her service which was presented with kindness and wisdom. We will always be grateful.
