Dense fog, showers across Southeast Texas Sunday. Here’s what to expect.

Sunday is the first day of winter. However, instead of chilly temperatures and sunshine, the region is seeing warm temperatures and high atmospheric moisture levels, much more typical of spring. On top of that, a summer-like high-pressure system will move in over the next couple of days.

Winter is getting off to quite a warm start.

Before the high pressure arrives, though, a weak cold front will approach the area on Sunday. While it won’t necessarily drop Houston’s temperatures, it may spark some showers or even a few weak storms. Here’s what to expect.

Sunday’s forecast

The weather Sunday morning will more closely resemble late spring or early summer. Temperatures are expected to hover near 70 degrees between 5 and 9 a.m., an incredible 25 degrees above-average for the first day of winter.

Patchy, dense fog is also possible throughout the morning, especially on the north and west sides of the Houston metro area. Visibility could fall to near zero at times, so if you have to travel, do so cautiously. Reduce your speed, keep plenty of distance between vehicles, and use low beams…
