NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – It’s one of the most recognizable holiday fundraisers. But less than a week out from Christmas, the Salvation Army said its Red Kettle campaign is struggling to meet its goal.
“Just because we’re in the middle of distributing doesn’t mean we have enough. We’re spending everything we need to spend for Christmas, but this has got to carry us through the year,” said Major Raewyn Aspeitia, with The Salvation Army.
So far, the campaign in New Mexico has only reached a little over half of its $620,000 goal. Aspeitia attributes the slow fundraising in part to people having less cash on hand when they pass a kettle…
