Community gathers in Eugene to honor homeless at vigil ceremony

EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene Farmer’s Market Pavilion on Sunday night hosted a community gathering for the National Homeless Person’s Memorial Day vigil. This event honors those who have passed away while experiencing homelessness, taking place on the year’s shortest day and longest night.

The vigil includes a candlelight ceremony, live music, and a community resource fair. Attendees have the opportunity to write the names of lost loved ones on a remembrance board and receive a free meal. John Bradley from the Human Rights Commission highlighted the importance of the event.
