Brightening the Hartselle community for generations, the Russell Family Christmas Lights began as a labor of love inspired by family tradition and a desire to create lasting memories, according to creator Matt Russell.
Russell said his love for holiday decorating started in childhood, helping his father with elaborate displays in Cullman.
“My dad did lights all the way from the time I was little, I started probably [when I was] about eight years old, helping him,” he said. “We used to light up a big apartment complex in Cullman, and I’d help him every year. Once I got to be an adult, I started off small, and then in about 2020, it started getting bigger and bigger. Every year, it just gets bigger. I just love to see people enjoy the lights. I see people stop in front of the house, bringing kids rolling down the windows and pointing at all the inflatables in the yard. It just fills me with joy to see that.”…
