Wildlife Advocates Say it’s Similar to Pelican Injuries in SoCal about five years ago
An adult female California brown pelican was found injured in Marina del Rey with her throat pouch slashed, an injury rescuers say appears consistent with a sharp object and may be the result of animal cruelty.
The pelican was reported to International Bird Rescue earlier this month and underwent emergency surgery after being transported to the organization’s care facility. Veterinarians performed a three-hour operation, using hundreds of stitches to repair the bird’s damaged pouch, which is critical for feeding.
