BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — Live Christmas tree fires can turn a Hallmark movie into a horror movie.
When they happen, according to FEMA, 1 out of every 52 Christmas tree fires can result in death.
Beford County Fire Marshal Leo George said the fuel of that fire is your festive live tree, especially when it isn’t watered enough.
“One way to test it is to grab part of the tree, and when you pull, you’re going to pull a bunch of needles off, and that’s usually indicative that it’s pretty dry. When you look at a wet tree versus a dry tree, within 30 to 45 seconds, the dry tree has fully combusted and is put off enough radiant heat that is starting to catch the room on fire,” George said…
