Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger has announced the appointment of Candi Mundon King, a proud Delta Sigma Theta soror, to serve as Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia, a key role responsible for ensuring accessibility, responsiveness, and effective constituent services within the Office of the Governor.
Mundon King has represented Virginia’s 23rd District in the House of Delegates since 2021 and made history as the first Black woman to chair the House Committee on Counties, Cities, and Towns. Her leadership has consistently reflected Delta Sigma Theta’s legacy of public service, advocacy, and social action.
During her tenure in the General Assembly, Mundon King has championed legislation that secured pay raises for teachers, strengthened protections for victims of human trafficking, expanded paid sick leave for home health care workers, and safeguarded renters from unauthorized home access. She also authored the historic Virginia MOMnibus, which transformed maternal health outcomes across the Commonwealth, and founded both the Sickle Cell Caucus and the Black Maternal Health Caucus…
