(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A hearing will take place on Monday, Dec. 22, at 1:30 p.m. to determine if the court will accept the guilty pleas of Jon and Carie Hallford, the owners of the now-defunct Return to Nature Funeral Home. The guilty pleas were entered on Tuesday, Dec. 16, for the criminal cases being prosecuted in El Paso County.

According to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s (DA) Office, both Hallfords entered into individual plea agreements:
- Jon Hallford entered a guilty plea and will receive a prison sentence between 30-50 years.
- Carie Hallford entered a guilty plea and will receive a prison sentence between 25-35 years.
Jon Hallford’s sentencing date is tentatively scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, while Carrie Hallford’s sentencing date is tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 24.
The two were arrested on Nov. 8, 2023, and charged with corpse abuse, theft, money laundering, and forgery after 189 decomposing bodies were discovered at the Penrose location of the Return to Nature Funeral Home.
