26-Year-Old Woman Found Guilty for First-Degree Attempted Murder In Longmont

On February 5, 2025, Chance Cardona was shot at least six times point blank after he parked his car in his apartment complex and opened the car door. Cardona suffered gunshot wounds to the face, shoulder, arm, and thigh. He was able to call 911 after the shooting and was able to survive the injuries. Officers were able to track down the perpetrator, Duy Nguyen, with help from license plate reader images, shell casings found on the scene, and Cardona’s partial identification of the suspect. Last week, Boulder County announced that Nguyen was found guilty of all charges following a jury trial.

Nguyen, a 26-year-old female, was found guilty of Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder in the First Degree, which has a sentencing range of 16 to 48 years in the Department of Correction. Nguyen was also found guilty of first-degree assault, which has a range of 10 to 32 years. There were also two crimes of violence applied as sentencing enhancers. Nguyen is scheduled to be sentenced on February 13, 2026 at 10 a.m.

“This case is a tragic one, as the victim was ambushed and suffered multiple gunshot wounds,” Longmont Police Chief David Moore said. “Thanks to the dedication and tireless efforts of our officers, detectives, staff, and the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, justice has been served, enabling the victim to begin the healing process. This outcome reflects a remarkable team effort, and I greatly value the strong partnerships we have with our fellow agencies.”…
