PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — In the days leading up to Christmas, the weather is looking more like it should be this time of the year. Less in the way of 60-degree high temperatures in the Portland metro area and more in the way of snow in the Cascades. We predict more ski resorts may open this week as the snow will continue to fall and stick above 4,000 ft.

Looking ahead, another system will arrive on Christmas Eve, bringing with it more rain and windy conditions. Expect more in the way of lingering showers and strong winds. Some forecast models show isolated gusts around the Willamette Valley up to 50 to 60 mph in the worst case scenario. This could lead to scattered power outages. We’ll keep our eyes on this closely.
Expect some snow-related travel impacts over the Cascade passes this week as snow levels fall to as low as 2,500 ft at times in the overnight hours. So make sure to carry those traction devices or studded tires. Temperatures will remain near seasonal averages in Portland this coming week…
