Jack’s Brewing Company, the long-running brewpub at the Fremont Hub, will pour its last pints on New Year’s Eve, closing the doors once the kegs run dry. A fixture at the Hub since 1999 and a favorite of generations of East Bay regulars, the spot is now selling through its remaining beer before shutting down after more than two decades.
As reported by The Mercury News, owners Tricia and Brian Sparling say rising operating costs, declining sales and major repair bills pushed them to call it quits. The couple took over Jack’s in 2021 and tried to steady the business, but said the math stopped working. By their estimate, they put more than $300,000 into repairs and upgrades after becoming owners.
Owners cite rising costs and major repairs
“Rising operating costs, declining sales and major repairs” were at the heart of the decision, Tricia Sparling told The Mercury News. The owners said they kept the pub going as long as they could, but that expensive upkeep combined with a changing market made continued operation untenable.
Taproom staples, staff and anniversary
The pub brewed six beers on site, long-time staples on the Fremont tap list, and employed roughly 20 people, according to the owners. Last year, Jack’s marked a milestone with a limited-release beer to celebrate 25 years in the neighborhood. Regulars have already started dropping in for farewell rounds as the brewpub prepares to close.
Where and when to go
Jack’s is located at 39176 Argonaut Way in Fremont. Hours and contact details are listed on the brewpub’s website. For directions and current hours, see Jack’s Brewing Company. The owners say the taproom will stay open through New Year’s Eve and “until the beer runs out.”
Legal note and next steps
The Mercury News also reported that Jack’s had faced a lawsuit alleging noncompliance with disability-access rules. Court records and civil filings were not addressed in the owners’ closing statement, and the Sparlings have not outlined plans for the space once the doors are locked…
