It was one of the first places I saw when I moved to Amarillo. This giant truck stop with a sign larger than life from the highway. My family had just exited I-27 on Hollywood as we began our lives here, and it was the first thing that caught my eye.
We were staying at a hotel nearby for the first week we were here, as we waited for our house to become available to us, and I frequented the Love’s Truck Stop frequently in that week, as it was within walking distance.
Is The Love’s Closed
The other day, I drove past it and noticed the Love’s had been all torn up, there were construction vehicles around, and it was clearly not open. You could see boards going up on the building; all the signage had been pulled down, aside from the massive sign still visible from the highway.
I thought to myself, that’s strange. There was no indication that I had heard or seen that Love’s was going to be shutting down. Making it even stranger, the company has been opening new locations all around the Texas Panhandle. So, did Amarillo just not make the cut? I mean, it always seemed busy to me.
Possible Remodel Coming
I did a quick Google search and found that it said “temporarily closed”. So it got me thinking, maybe they’re just doing a massive remodel of the location?
When you look at that picture, it kind of looks like that’s exactly what is going on. The building did appear to be old, and maybe they’re just bringing it up to date with how the newer locations look. Regardless, Love’s in Amarillo is closed for the moment. I’m curious to see what comes of all the ruckus.
