The brightest spot under the Dec. 9 sky that promised a winter storm was the “Open” sign at Green Bay Express Laundry Center on the east side of Green Bay
It was Tuesday, free laundry day at the laundromat, 1742 E. Mason St. Free because otherwise, to do laundry would be a choice to do without some calories, school clothes, or Christmas presents for those moving to the door with carts of clothes or fists around the necks of laundry bags. A load in the smallest washer is about three bags of Great Value sandwich bread, or $4.50. The king-size washer is a dinner date, or $18. Drying is extra, 25 cents for three or six minutes, depending on the dryer.
Paying that day, like every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., were Jean VandenLangenberg of Laundry Love Brown County and her volunteers.
