New Orleans-area churches cancel Christmas services amid Border Patrol operation

NEW ORLEANS — An intense Border Patrol operation in the New Orleans area is about to enter its fourth week. Many families are choosing to remain home for fear of being detained and, with Christmas in just a few days, a local faith leader says many churches are also opting to cancel their usual holiday services.

On Monday, WWL Louisiana spoke with Pastor Melquisedec Castillo, vice president of Faro De La Alianza, a local coalition of Hispanic pastors. Castillo said his church and others have made the decision not to hold Christmas services.
