Alleged Venezuelan gang members accused of killing man in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Four Venezuelan nationals made their first appearance in federal court on Monday, accused of kidnapping and torturing a man to death inside an Albuquerque apartment in June 2024. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said a man was lured to the apartment on Indian School and University Blvd. Investigators said 11 men participated in the torture and strangling of the victim. All are believed to be members or leaders of the Tren de Aragua gang and were illegally staying in the U.S.

The feds said the victim was also a member of the Venezuelan gang, but was suspected of cooperating with a rival gang. The body was transported in a suitcase and buried in a remote desert location. All 11 men are facing several charges, including kidnapping and murder in aid of racketeering and drug trafficking conspiracy. The charges come with a possible life sentence if convicted.
